A free digital aquarium for a quiet moment

Polyquarium is an interactive virtual fish tank by Stephen Younts. Watch colorful freshwater fish glide among swaying plants, gather into small schools and hurry toward food. A crab wanders along the bottom, moving its claws as bubbles rise through the water. Play in your browser without an account, installation or plugins.

Use it as an aquarium screensaver

Choose Immerse to hide the controls and enjoy an aquarium screensaver-style view. Switch between day and night lighting, pause the animation, or adjust the number of fish and their swimming speed. Tap the water or select Feed fish to start a feeding.

This is a browser aquarium, not an installed operating-system screensaver. It does not start automatically when your computer is idle or prevent your device from sleeping. Browser fullscreen controls can provide a larger view where supported.

Fish movement

Fish combine gentle cruising with short bursts and quieter glides. Small groups occasionally swim together, and nearby fish briefly align their headings, follow one another or give each other more room. Feeding draws them toward the food; afterward, they gradually spread out and resume exploring.

Fish turn toward open water as they approach the glass and keep exploring the tank. Individual swimming pace and preferred depth add variety to the scene.

The artwork includes neon-tetra, angelfish, guppy, tiger-barb, zebra-danio and Cory-catfish styles, along with golden, rosy and silver varieties. These are stylized depictions, not a guide to stocking a real aquarium.

Play on a computer, tablet or phone

Open this page in a modern browser with JavaScript and Canvas 2D support. Mouse, touch and keyboard controls are available. All artwork and animation code are included in this page, so a downloaded HTML copy can also run offline in browsers that allow local scripts.

Some tablet file previews do not run interactive HTML. If a downloaded copy appears blank, open polyquarium.com directly in your browser. The aquarium starts paused when your device requests reduced motion; select Resume to begin. Animation pauses its work when the tab is hidden.
